PATTERN NOTES
- Please read through the entire pattern before you begin
- At the beginning of every single row, you must chain 3. This counts as your turning chain to get the perfect height for your stitches, but it does not count as an actual stitch.
- The turning chain 3 does count as a stitch.
- Make sure to use the same type and weight of yarn for both colors in your project. Using a thinner yarn for one color may affect the look of the color changes and result in an uneven finish.
- Use the reference images provided for guidance.
- The entire pattern is worked using Double Crochet (dc).
INSTRUCTIONS
Round 1 (Blue): Start with a slip knot and Ch 100. Being careful not to twist the chain, bring the ends together and join with a sl st into the first ch to form a large ring. Ch 3 (remind yourself, this doesn’t count as a st!). Work 1 Dc in each chain all the way around. Before finishing your last Dc, introduce the White yarn by pulling it through the last 2 loops on your hook. Close the round with a sl st into the first actual Dc of the round. Cut the Red yarn. (100 sts)

Round 2 (White): Ch 3. Work 1 Dc in each st around. In the last Dc of the round, switch to Blue yarn on the final pull-through. Join with a sl st to the first Dc. Cut the White yarn. (100 sts)

Round 3 (Red): Ch 3. Work 1 Dc in each st around. Switch to Red yarn on the final pull-through of the last Dc. Join with a sl st to the first Dc. Cut the Blue yarn. (100 sts)
Round 4 (Blue): Ch 3. Work 1 Dc in each st around. Switch to White yarn on the final pull-through of the last Dc. Join with a sl st to the first Dc. Cut the Red yarn. (100 sts)
Round 5 (White): Ch 3. Work 1 Dc in each st around. Switch to Blue yarn on the final pull-through of the last Dc. Join with a sl st to the first Dc. Cut the White yarn. (100 sts)
Round 6 (Red): Ch 3. Work 1 Dc in each st around. Once you reach the end, join with a final sl st to the first Dc. Cut the yarn, fasten off, and weave in all your ends securely. (100 sts)

Assembly & Finishing Touches:
- Turn it inside out: Take your finished crochet tube and turn it inside out so that all the color-change transitions and woven ends are hidden on the inside.
- The Accordion Fold: Lay the tube flat and fold it neatly lengthwise into an accordion shape (just like shown in the photo).

- Hug the Hair Tie: Place your hair tie right in the center of the folded fabric, as if your crochet piece is “hugging” the elastic right in the middle.

- Join the Edges: Gently pull and bring the two outer edges of your crochet tube together over the hair tie. Use a tapestry needle and a strand of yarn to sew the top and bottom rows together, rotating the piece little by little until the tube is fully closed around the hair tie.

Fasten off, hide your final thread, fluff it up, and your gorgeous patriotic scrunchie is ready to wear!
